Wildflowers: An Appreciation of the Cosmos

When I moved to a house with a group of friends in Oakland, I planted cosmos and daisies. After a few weeks the cosmos stopped blooming, and we were left with an unwieldy bush. The daisies continued to be happy for awhile, but then they too became unruly. In the spring I hoped they would pop up again, but they never did. I pulled out the roots but didn’t replant. I moved out a few months later. I used to buy wild cosmos at the farmer’s market, but they tend to get icky and smelly within a few days. And now, I have learned to appreciate the cosmos without trying to control them in my garden or in my house.
